Rashid got down from the train. I was waiting for him on the platform. Everywhere, there was thick crowd waiting for trains. We went through Sarat Chatterjee street and then entered into another lane. Rashid was searching for a student mess as he was a student of University of Calcutta, and wanted to continue his study from a mess. I said,"Yes, come, I will find mess for you, it is not a matter". We stopped in front of a gate seeing a board "vacant seat". It was a two-storied building. From a room of ground floor, a thin young man came out and asked to come inside. I smiled at Rashid's face, he too. It was a medium size room with three beds, and as one was absent for last six months, they put up the board, they told us. So, "This is your bed, you can join us tomorrow, but have to pay for the whole month", said the young man. The other member of the room said," Don't worry, we are here for last five years, you have come to right place". Before we left, the young one asked my friend's name. "I am Rashid, Rashid Alam", said my friend. They remained silent for a while and looked at each other. The young one tried to explain that they had no problem with a Muslim, but the owner of the house would not agree. The owner of the house refused. We could not say anything, and came out of the room .I became very disappointed because I had no idea about it. The same incident happened five times that day. Rashid said, "it's okay, we will come tomorrow again". He boarded a train to return, and I began to walk towards my mess. A low sound of prayer from a mosque was floating in the air under the reddish- blue sky.
